BACKGROUND

ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX Power) owns and operates ENMAX No. 28 Substation, located at 4941 50 Street SW. ENMAX No. 28 Substation commenced operations over 50 years ago and provides electrical services to residential and commercial properties in Calgary’s Glamorgan area and surrounding communities.

ENMAX No. 28 Substation holds four transformers of varying vintages. Due to deteriorated asset condition, it has been determined that transformer 28.1TR requires replacement.

ENMAX Power intends to apply to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for approval to replace transformer 28.1TR within the substation fence line in a location approximately three meters east of the transformer’s current location (the Project). The Project will ensure the continued safe, reliable and efficient operation of ENMAX Power’s electrical system.

PROPOSED SCHEDULE

ENMAX Power plans to file a Checklist Application with the AUC in late Q2 2023. Subject to receiving approvals and the procurement of materials, construction is anticipated to begin in Q3 2024. Construction is anticipated to take approximately four months with a proposed in-service date in Q4 2024. We encourage stakeholders to consult the webpage for the most up-to-date construction information.

CONSTRUCTION METHODS

The proposed construction activities will take place at the existing ENMAX No. 28 Substation location. Temporary access accommodations and road closures may be periodically required during construction. ENMAX Power will work with stakeholders and The City of Calgary to minimize the impact to residences, businesses and commuters in the area.

POWER OUTAGES

There are no planned power outages impacting customers associated with Project construction.
