Avoid Utility Scams

ENMAX is a part of Utilities United Against Scams, a group of 100 electric, natural gas, and water companies across North America, who have joined to safeguard customers from fraud from individuals impersonating utility company representatives.

Current scams to be aware of:

ENMAX is warning of a phone and text scam where a fraudster claims to be from ENMAX and threatens power disconnection if payment is not received. This is not from ENMAX.

ENMAX does not request cash payments at a kiosk, credit card details over the phone or accept payment by bitcoin. Additionally, we do not disconnect power without fair warning and process.

If you receive a suspicious phone call, do not give out any personal details. If you are unsure of the legitimacy of a call, or would like to check your account balance, please call our Customer Care Centre at 310-2010 or by signing in to your online account.

Please share the following with your family and friends:

  • Do not give out any personal information including account numbers or addresses.
  • Aside from meter readers, ENMAX does not offer services (e.g. furnace cleaning or energy efficiency tests) door to door. Visit the Alberta Government website for further details.
  • Power cannot be cut off without fair warning and a process.
  • ENMAX does not take credit card payments over the phone – this includes pre-paid credit cards. Other 'loan' type payment options such as MoneyMart are also not accepted.
  • You can check the status of your ENMAX account by calling 310-2010 or by signing in to your online account.
