Customers are being sent a fraudulent text message that appears as if it’s been sent from ENMAX. The message prompts customers to follow a link to receive a refund. This message is a scam. ENMAX does not contact customers by text message or issue refunds by e-transfer.
If you receive this message, do not click on the link or enter any personal information. If you have already entered your banking information, contact your bank immediately.
This phone scam is targeted primarily at small business owners in Calgary who receive a fraudulent call from someone claiming to be from ENMAX. The call may appear to come from an ENMAX number, and may even use an ENMAX recording. The caller says there is an outstanding balance and threatens to cut power unless an immediate payment is made, often through an unusual form of payment such as pre-paid credit cards or Bitcoin.
If you receive a suspicious phone call, hang up and do not give out any information. ENMAX does not disconnect power without fair warning and process. If you are concerned about your ENMAX account status, please call us at 310-2010.
An email phishing scam is targeting both ENMAX customers and the broader public. Two different emails are circulating that appear to be sent from an ENMAX address and prompt recipients to click on a link or view a document.
If you receive a suspicious message, delete it. Do not click on the link or open the attachment. If you have already received this email and submitted your ENMAX login credentials, we recommend that you update your user name and password.
Thanks to alert customers, there has been a report of a man appearing at a customer’s door in Calgary wearing an ENMAX T-shirt while acting suspiciously and asking vague questions about energy use. ENMAX does not go door-to-door, but we do have meter readers out there who carry ENMAX ID.
Should you experience this please call police at 403-266-1234 (non-emergency) if the person is gone or 9-1-1 if person is still present.
All customers are free to purchase natural gas services from the default supply provider or from a retailer of their choice and to purchase electricity services from the regulated rate provider or from a retailer of their choice. The delivery of natural gas and electricity to you is not affected by your choice. If you change who you purchase natural gas services or electricity services from, you will continue receiving natural gas and electricity from the distribution company in your service area. For a current list of retailers you may choose from, visit www.ucahelps.gov.ab.ca or call 310-4822 (toll free in Alberta).
