Our Commitment to the Environment

At ENMAX, we are committed to providing environmentally responsible energy solutions to the communities we service and strive to continually improve our environmental performance.

ENMAX has developed Environmental Management Systems that are modeled after the requirements of the Canadian Electricity Association's Sustainable Electricity™ program and ISO 14001:2015, an international standard for environmental management.


Environment Policy

The main commitments of the policy are summarized in a PACCT to protect the environment:

  • Prevention of pollution;
  • Awareness of environmental issues;
  • Compliance with environmental laws, regulations policies and procedures;
  • Continual improvement of environmental performance; and
  • Training of employees to minimize environmental impacts.

Environmental Impacts

ENMAX identifies environmental risks or issues and develops objectives, targets and programs to reduce potential environmental impacts in the following areas:

  • Management of leaks, spills and PCBs 
  • Avian and wildlife interactions
  • Working around water bodies and wetlands 
  • Air quality and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) management
  • Hazardous and non-hazardous waste management
  • Water quality and consumption
  • Land and facility management
  • Working in environmentally sensitive areas

Environmental Reporting and Sustainable Electricity™

Our 2022 ESG Report details ENMAX's commitment to continual improvement of environmental performance as well as other initiatives. In 2019, ENMAX achieved the Electricity Canada(EC) designation as a Sustainable Electricity Company. This designation recognizes the importance ENMAX places on our environment, social and governance performance.
