ENMAX would like to warn small businesses of a phone scam currently circulating in the Calgary area.
This scam involves customers receiving a fraudulent call claiming to be from ENMAX. The caller says the customer owes an outstanding balance and threatens to cut power unless an immediate payment is made, often through an unusual form of payment such as Bitcoin or pre-paid credit cards.
If you receive a suspicious phone call of this nature, hang up and do not provide any information. ENMAX does not contact customers in this manner and does not disconnect power without first working with customers through an established and appropriate notification process.
If you are concerned about your ENMAX account status, please call 310-2010. For more information on utility scams in Calgary, you can also visit www.enmax.com/avoid-scams.
ENMAX is part of Utilities United Against Scams, a group of North American utility companies who have joined to safeguard customers from fraud.
