ENMAX Board of Directors appoints new President and CEO

Calgary, Alta. – ENMAX Corporation (ENMAX) Board of Directors is pleased to announce Mark Poweska as ENMAX’s President and Chief Executive Officer, following a thorough and competitive recruitment process.​

Mark is a proven leader and comes to ENMAX with 30 years of experience in the electric utility sector, working in a variety of roles across the electricity value chain spanning generation, transmission and distribution. He currently serves as the President and CEO at Hydro One Limited, Ontario’s largest electricity transmission and distribution provider, where his focus on customers, safety, efficiency and community partnership has resulted in record-high customer satisfaction, first quartile safety performance ​and consistent growth.

Current Interim President and CEO, Charles Ruigrok, will continue to lead ENMAX until Mark joins the organization in late September.

About Mark Poweska, P.Eng., Incoming President and CEO

Mark is coming to ENMAX from Hydro One, where he serves as the President and CEO and led the launch of their strategy in 2019. With a focus on safety, efficiency, customer service and community partnership, the team achieved record-breaking results including first quartile safety performance, record-high customer satisfaction and an industry-leading partnership model with Indigenous communities.​

Prior to joining Hydro One in 2019, Mark was the Executive Vice President, Operations at BC Hydro where he oversaw all aspects of operations in the organization’s electric system, serving approximately 4 million residential, commercial and industrial customers. During his tenure, Mark successfully led the merger of the former transmission and distribution organization with the generation organization, to form one operations group with revenues of approximately $5 billion.

​Mark joined BC Hydro in 1993 and worked in several parts of the organization, including engineering, construction and procurement.

He is the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Ontario Energy Association and serves on the Board of the Western Energy Institute.

Mark grew up in southeastern BC and graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in mechanical engineering. Mark’s wife is from Alberta and they are looking forward to returning to the West to be closer to friends and family, including their son who is studying at the University of Calgary and their daughter’s family in Kelowna, which includes their twin granddaughters.
