Calgary, Alta. – ENMAX has released its 2022 Environmental, Social and Governance Report highlighting its ongoing commitment to energy affordability, advancing electrification, reducing emissions, adapting to a changing climate and investing in grid resilience while enabling a diverse and inclusive team and ensuring continued access to safe and reliable energy.

“As enablers of the energy transition, we are committed to meeting our customers’ expectations around electrification and choice,” said Jennifer Saldana, Director, ESG Performance and Reporting at ENMAX. “We are optimistic about the role technology can play in helping us build a lower carbon future – supporting Canada’s ambition to become net zero by improving efficiency in our power generation portfolio, offsetting our building emissions and advancing electrification.”

ENMAX’s ESG report outlines progress made on targets that move us closer to a cleaner energy future including:

• Achieving a 65 per cent reduction in scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions toward our net-zero target and offsetting 100 per cent of its building’s scope 1 and scope 2 emissions.
• Advancing the electrification of its mobile fleet with continued testing of two electric mediumduty trucks and the conclusion of its Charge Up pilot (phase II) which is helping prepare for electric vehicle (EV) growth by studying EV adoption and the overall effect EVs have on the power grid.
• Becoming the first utility in Canada to achieve two-way power flow on specialized secondary network distribution systems on the rooftop of CF Chinook Centre, paving the way for urban customers to have more choice in how they generate and use electricity while building a lower carbon future.
• Securing funding for a carbon capture feasibility study at Shepard Energy Centre. The study will help advance the technology and financial analysis for adding a carbon capture unit at Canada’s largest commercial-scale natural gas combined-cycle facility.
• Continued partnership with The City of Calgary on the ENMAX Community Solar Fund, which is supporting another 17 Calgary community associations with rooftop solar installations at facilities across the city.

ENMAX also contributed over $3M to Alberta community organizations including support for energy affordability programs, essential needs funding, energy efficiency education, and conservation programs, with 35 per cent of our community investment budget invested in supporting customers at the various stages of the energy affordability life cycle.

ENMAX has a dedicated team of customer care agents working with customers, supporting them with different energy plans and payment arrangements. ENMAX has not disconnected a single residential household due to non-payment in the past year.
