Over the past 24 hours, ENMAX has received dozens of reports of an elaborate phone scam targeting ENMAX residential customers.
The automated message claims to be from ENMAX and tells customers their account is overdue and their bill must be paid immediately or electricity will be disconnected. Recipients are asked to pay the bill by calling a contact centre or paying in person at a specific address or convenience store.
The scam calls have been known to come from 403-514-7257 and the contact centre numbers provided have included 1-800-988-6750 and 1-800-806-5614.
We want to ensure the public and our customers are aware of this fraudulent activity, as ENMAX does not ask customers to provide payment information over the phone.
If customers receive a suspicious phone call, we advise them to immediately hang up and call us at 310-2010.
