OVERVIEW

ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX Power) owns and operates transmission line 3.84L (3.84L), which provides electrical services to residential and commercial properties in Calgary’s Tuxedo Park and Balmoral communities and surrounding areas. 3.84L is a 138-kilovolt transmission line that runs north from ENMAX No. 3 Substation (139 17 Avenue NW) to 32 Avenue NE where it runs east and connects into ENMAX No. 13 Substation (867 32 Avenue NE).

ENMAX Power has applied to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for approval to alter 3.84L by modifying the existing components (post insulators) located on four transmission structures and installing a new wood pole within the existing alignment west of Centre Street N and north of 31 Avenue NW (the Project). The proposed alteration will increase the height of 3.84L, allowing ENMAX Power to comply with clearance requirements between the line and existing facilities in the area. Resolving these clearance violations will ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of ENMAX Power’s electrical system.

PROPOSED SCHEDULE

ENMAX Power has filed the Checklist Application with the AUC in January 2023. Subject to receiving approvals and the procurement of materials, construction is anticipated to begin as early as Q2 2023 and no later than Q3 2023. At this time, construction is anticipated to take approximately one week with a proposed in-service date by August 2023.  We encourage stakeholders to consult the webpage for the most up-to-date construction information.

CONSTRUCTION METHODS

The proposed construction activities will take place west of Centre Street N and east along 32 Avenue NE, between ENMAX No. 3 Substation and ENMAX No. 13 Substation. Temporary access accommodations and road closures may be periodically required during construction. ENMAX Power will work with stakeholders and The City of Calgary to minimize the impact to residences, businesses, and commuters in the area.

POWER OUTAGES

In advance of construction, a planned power outage may be required to facilitate this work. If your residence is impacted, you will receive direction notification with details indicating important outage information.
