ENMAX is warning customers about a new text message scam that attempts to obtain personal banking information by posing as ENMAX. Several customers have reported receiving a text message sent from a 604 area code that claims to be from "ENMAX Corporations." The fraudulent message alleges that ENMAX owes you a refund that can be obtained by clicking the link in the text and submitting your personal banking details.
Please take the time to warn friends and family that this message is not from ENMAX, it is a scam.
ENMAX does not communicate with customers by text message or issue refunds by e-transfer. We will only discuss your account details with you over the phone.
If you receive a text message claiming to be from ENMAX, do not click the link or provide any banking details. Report the scam to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
If you are ever unsure about whether a message from ENMAX is legitimate, call our Customer Care Centre at 310-2010 for clarification and do not open any links or attachments. We encourage our customers to visit our webpage on avoiding utility scams to get the latest information on utility-related scams occurring in Alberta.
