ENMAX Power is here to help as you explore locating a large commercial or industrial development within ENMAX Power’s service area. A large load is considered anything over five megawatts (5 MW).
“We want to make this process easy for you,” said Brandy Eagleson, partner relationship management. “We’ve developed a
simple document that lays out the process and who to contact if you have questions.”
“Depending on the requested load and availability of electrical capacity in the location of interest, you could require service through the distribution system or the transmission system,” said Eagleson.
Generally, a development requiring 20 MW or less will be connected directly to the distribution system. A connection to the distribution system can take upwards of one year to complete (depending on complexity and other activity in the area) and will likely be
primary-metered service.
ENMAX Power’s
Load Capacity Map identifies the existing distribution system and available capacity at any given address/location within ENMAX Power’s service area (excluding downtown Calgary). This tool is an ideal resource at the preliminary stage of a large project to identify potential locations for your development.
“Our goal is to provide you with the necessary information you need to make your business decisions,” said Eagleson.
Connecting to the transmission system is facilitated through the
Alberta Electric System Operator’s connection process and requires regulatory approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission.
