Modern meter equipment installations continue

As the electricity provider for the city of Calgary, ENMAX Power is modernizing the way we read electrical meters through Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). Crews are working to replace non-AMI meters with digital meters.

AMI is an integrated metering technology that enables two-way remote communication between utilities and individual meters.

“AMI will provide customers with more convenience and reliability while ensuring ENMAX Power continues to provide safe and cost-effective services,” says Derek Major, manager, metering services.

Using AMI will provide customers with more reliability and efficiency, improve outage reporting and response times, reduce the need for property access to read meters and reduce the risk of meter tampering and electricity theft.

About 300,000 meters will be replaced over the coming years.

“This project is a large undertaking that will support our customers now and into the future,” says Tristyn Head, manager, customer experience. “We want to make sure we meet their needs with proactive notification, so customers know what this program means for them.”

For commercial customers, ENMAX Power will arrange meter replacements with property representatives and perform meter exchanges during preferred times to reduce impacts to business operations.
