AUC Decision changes maximum investment levels

The residential development community petitioned the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) in 2022 to increase the maximum investment levels (MILs) of electric utilities for residential developments in Alberta. In response, the AUC conducted a proceeding to review the investment levels of all Alberta electric utilities.

ENMAX Power actively participated in the AUC proceeding and provided extensive evidence supporting its argument that the current level of investment in residential developments was appropriate and should be maintained.

On October 18, 2023, the AUC issued a Decision (Decision 27658-D02-2023) confirming that utility investment in standard and non-standard residential developments should continue and approved a generic maximum investment of $3,016 per service starting in January 2024.

“We understand the recent AUC decision on maximum investment levels will have both process and financial implications on our customers,” said Cary Sabraw, Director, Project Delivery. “Residential developers will now carry a larger portion of the electrical service cost for new services.”

“We will continue to work with the development community to identify and implement innovative and cost-effective solutions to service your new developments,” said Sabraw.

ENMAX Power hosted a virtual information session on December 12, 2023 with the development community to share this information and ask questions.
