Transmission Reinforcement Project

Project Update

Construction is now complete for the Downtown Calgary Transmission Reinforcement Project. On August 18th, 2020, ENMAX successfully energized the new 138 kV underground transmission line. The new line is 5.5 km long and supports the reliability of the power system in Calgary’s downtown area. The line goes from ENMAX No. 2 Substation (3120 – 9 Street SE) to ENMAX No. 8 Substation (903 – 4 Avenue SW).

Project status

ENMAX filed an application with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for the proposed work in November 2017. The AUC issued a decision approving the project November 2018. Construction began in February 2019 and the project was energized August 2020.
