ENMAX Power Corporation

NO. 33 SUBSTATION Transmission Line Alteration Project

OVERVIEW

ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX Power) owns and operates ENMAX No. 33 Substation (No. 33 Substation) which is located at 940 Canfield Crescent SW, as well as the interconnecting overhead transmission line 33.84L (33.84L). A segment of 33.84L located within the existing substation fence-line has been determined to pose a potential safety hazard to ENMAX Power personnel during routine maintenance activities. ENMAX Power proposes to address this by altering the location of 33.84L on ENMAX Power owned property (the Project). This project will enable ongoing substation maintenance, while continuing to provide ENMAX Power customers with safe and reliable electricity.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Transmission line 33.84L currently enters No. 33 substation at the north side of the existing fence-line. ENMAX Power is proposing that instead of crossing the substation yard diagonally, 33.84L will run from its current alignment, along the west side of the substation yard and connect to a new steel monopole at the south end of the substation outside of the existing fence-line on ENMAX Power owned property. 33.84L will then run east along the south edge of ENMAX Power owned property where it will connect to a new steel monopole and run north to connect to the substation.

This Project includes:

  • The installation of two steel monopoles at the south end of the substation outside of the existing fence-line on ENMAX Power owned property.
  • The removal of one existing wood pole within the existing fence-line.

TRANSMISSION STRUCTURES

The proposed steel monopoles will be approximately 21 meters in height.

CONSTRUCTION IMPACTS

Temporary access accommodations and road closures may take place periodically during construction.
ENMAX Power will work with stakeholders and The City of Calgary to minimize the impact to residences, businesses, and commuters in the area. There are no planned power outages impacting customers as part of the Project.

COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY

We are committed to being a responsible corporate neighbour. Our commitment includes providing timely and meaningful engagement with stakeholders about our projects. We provide opportunities for stakeholders, including residents, occupants and landowners, to be informed about our projects, and to engage with us from the planning phase through construction and beyond.
