*Under 2017 UL-2854 Electricity – Renewable Low-Impact Products Standard
To determine the annual net quantity of renewable energy in mega watt hours (MWHs) from which your RECs were derived), please refer to the welcome letter and / or sign up confirmation that you received upon signing up for Green.
A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a certificate that represents the environmental attributes and benefits associated with the generation of 1,000 kWh of renewable electricity. The RECs that ENMAX Energy purchases come from facilities such as wind, biomass, hydro, etc. that are ECOLOGO® Program certified.
When you choose Green from ENMAX Energy for electricity, you contribute to the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) based on the level or fee you select.
Renewable energy generators can use money raised through the sale of RECs to support their current operations or invest in new ones.
A carbon offset represents the actual greenhouse gas emission reduction achieved by a facility or program such as methane capture, tree planting, recycling, carbon capture, etc. One offset is the reduction of one tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e), which will offset the emissions from approximately 19.78 GJs of natural gas*.
*Based on combustion at the point of consumption (not including lifecycle emissions that occur during extraction, production, or delivery.
When you choose Green from ENMAX Energy for natural gas, you will contribute to the purchase of offsets based on the level you select. The purchase of offsets helps drive future investments in facilities and programs that reduce carbon emissions.
To make it easy for you to select a Green-Add on, ENMAX Energy has three categories to choose from based on the type of home you live in. You can either select the category that fits your home, or choose a smaller or larger add-on that fits your budget.
