The fixed rate1 is guaranteed and won't change for 5 years from the date you select it regardless of what happens in the market. It helps you avoid any rate volatility.
The floating rate1 is based on market rates and changes monthly. If you like your electricity rate to closely reflect the market rates, then this rate might be right for you.
This a variable price per unit of electricity (kWh) that you will pay if you've chosen a plan with a floating rate, such as EasyMax®. The floating rate1 fluctuates monthly, following the market and includes pool trading charges, unaccounted for energy and line loss. Some conditions, admin, other fees and taxes beyond the electricity rate will also apply.
Yes, EasyMax® has the option to sign up for electricity or gas only. You might want this if you are not responsible for your electricity or natural gas service, if you live in a gas co-op or are on a contract with another retailer for electricity or natural gas.
No, EasyMax® does not have any early termination fees. Just provide one month's notice to cancel.
Yes! You can switch between the fixed and floating rates for both electricity and natural gas monthly2.
You can switch either online or by contacting us at 310-2010. Your new rate will become effective immediately. Remember – you can only switch to the energy plans that are available at the time you make your switch and you may not be able to switch back to the energy plan you used to have if it's no longer available for sign up.
If you signed up in June 2012 or later, when your fixed rate expires for electricity or natural gas, you will renew onto the longest term fixed rate available at the time, this way you know you you're always getting a fixed rate1 and won't be exposed to fluctuating floating rates.
If you signed up prior to June 2012, you will automatically renew onto the floating rate.
You can choose any retailer listed at www.ucahelps.alberta.ca. Electricity delivery to your home or business isn't affected by your choice of retailer.
