New ENMAX Metering Standard supports customers and crews
Getting to energization should be the exciting final step of a project for our customers. But too often, it’s where things can stall.
Over the past two years, ENMAX crews have increasingly arrived on site only to find projects aren’t quite ready. In 2024, one in five energization visits couldn’t be completed on the first trip. So far this year, that number has grown to nearly one in four. Each extra visit adds time to project timelines and puts additional pressure on crews already balancing a growing volume of work.
That’s why we’ve published an updated 2025 Metering Standard. It’s a full update that makes the standard easier to use, more consistent with current electrical codes, and better aligns with how metering and distributed energy resources (DER) work today.
At a high level, changes include:
- A cleaner, more modern structure that is easier to navigate
- Updated safety, access and technical requirements
- A refreshed approach to DER connections and approvals.
“This update was built with customers and industry partners in mind,” says Derek Major, Manager Metering Services. “By clarifying requirements and aligning them with how projects are actually designed and built today, we’re making it easier to get work approved, reduce rework in the field and move projects from design to energization faster.”
