Help spark stronger communities across Alberta

ENMAX launches the Community Spark Grant, a new funding program to help Alberta charities and non-profits build the tools, skills and resources they need to thrive.

ENMAX is excited to launch the Community Spark Grant, a new funding program to help Alberta charities and non-profits build the tools, skills and resources they need to thrive.

From October 1st to 31st, 2026, eligible organizations can apply for one of 10 grants of up to $15,000. Funding can be used for anything that helps build capacity, from upgrading technology and improving internal systems, to leadership development and staff training, to new equipment or materials.

Why capacity building matters

Community organizations play a vital role in helping Albertans thrive. They connect people with support, offer services and solutions, and strengthen the communities we call home.

And behind every successful program is a team working hard to keep things running. Many organizations face challenges such as aging technology, limited resources and growing demand for their services without the capacity to adequately respond.

Following conversations with community partners and research into the sector, the message became clear: organizations need support not only for programs, but also for the foundations that make those programs possible.

The ENMAX Community Spark Grant is designed to help address these challenges so organizations can increase their impact, adapt to changing needs and continue serving their communities for years to come.

“When organizations have the support they need, they can spend more time doing what matters most — helping people. Funding like this gives local charities and non-profits the stability to keep showing up for their communities, today and for years to come,” said Susan Brooke, Vice President, Community Impact & Partnerships for United Way Calgary and Area.

As part of what we do each day to light the way to a brighter energy future, ENMAX is focused on giving back the communities we serve, through sponsorships, funding and employee giving.  And this new grant is one more way ENMAX is supporting all Albertans.

"Strong communities start with strong organizations. Through the Community Spark Grant, we're helping non-profits and charities invest in themselves today, so they can pay it forward tomorrow, supporting a ripple effect of impact that reaches the communities they serve,” said Alex Frison, Director, Communications and Community Impact.

How to apply

Grant applications are now open and will be accepted from October 1st to 31st. Organizations are asked to complete a brief, five question online application form outlining what capacity-building need they are trying to address and how impact will be measured.

Following submission, an internal panel of ENMAX employees will review shortlisted applications and recipients will be notified by November 30th, 2026. Organizations will have one year to complete the work and spend the funds.
