Launched in 2019, Charge Up’s first phase has already helped us understand how the electricity system needs to adapt to the growing number of electric vehicles (EV) and chargers in our city.
Forecasts indicate that by 2035 there could be as many as 200,000 EVs on the streets of Calgary. To help us prepare for that shift, the next phase of Charge Up is looking for 250 EV owners to take part in a smart charging pilot to better understand charging behaviour and the factors that influence it.
Joining the next phase of Charge Up with ENMAX Power means you and other Calgary EV owners will help ENMAX support future growth of EVs in our city. The charging data gathered through this pilot will provide ENMAX with insights to help optimize the grid and increase capacity for EVs on our system.
We’re looking for 250 EV owners to share their charging stats and earn rewards over the next year. This phase is open to current and new Charge Up participants.
Enrollment is simple, and you’ll earn rewards for sharing when, where and how you charge your EV. All you have to do is install a data sharing device from our study partner, Geotab Energy.
To sign up, visit the Charge Up enrollment page.
If you’re still looking for the right charger, the information below can help get you started. If you have questions about installing a charger, please visit our
EV charger installation page.
Can be installed in a garage or outside your home on your driveway or parking pad.
Can be installed in a parkade, or parking lot.
Can be installed in parking lots or parkades and offer fast charging to enable long-range travel.
What is Charge Up?
Charge Up is an electric vehicle pilot first launched in 2019. The first phase provided insights into when drivers charge their EVs and for how long. The next phase, launching November 2021, will look at what factors influence charging behaviour.
Why is ENMAX running a pilot?
Charge Up is one of the ways ENMAX Power is preparing for increased growth in electric vehicles. The charging data obtained through the pilot will provide ENMAX Power with insights to help optimize the grid and increase capacity for EVs on our existing system.
When does the pilot start?
The second phase of the pilot starts in November, 2021 and runs to December, 2022.
What type of charging is included in Charge Up?
Electric vehicle owners in Calgary are eligible for the pilot.
