Power outage tips
Power outages are uncomfortable, unpredictable and uncommon. But when they happen there are a few easy things you can do to help navigate through unexpected power outages.
Find the cause
Unless the cause is obvious – say during a storm – take a moment and have a look around. If the power is still on at the neighbours, then chances are the outage is related to services to your home. Check your main breaker or your fuse box. Also see if a branch has fallen on the wires connecting your home to the network.
Shed some light on the situation
Visit our outage page to view current outages and to report your outage. You can also report an outage to 403-514-6100.
Protect your electronics
Unplug electronics such as computers and appliances. However, leave a light turned to the on position so you know when power is restored.
Keep cool
The vast majority of outages are brief, but in case the outage is going to last a long time, avoid opening your fridge and freezer as much as possible. A well-sealed freezer will keep food frozen for several hours.
Most importantly stay safe
Do not attempt to remove wires or debris from powerlines.
