Materiality and Stakeholder Engagement

In efforts to continually evolve the robustness of our sustainability commitments and communications, in 2021, we have enhanced our ESG reporting. As a component of this process, in 2020, subject matter experts across the organization participated in an extensive materiality assessment to determine which ESG-related issues were most relevant to ENMAX. The results of the assessment were reviewed and confirmed by our Executive Team and Board of Directors.

Our assessment of ESG-related issues was guided by standards set out under the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) and the Task Force on Climate related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). It was also informed by leading practices in sustainability reporting within the electricity industry. Our priorities were additionally informed by external stakeholder engagement with key customers, our Shareholder (The City of Calgary), providers of capital and employees. In completing this assessment, we identified material topics and we used our results to determine areas of organizational commitment and advancement for those deemed most critical in support of our growth strategy, business planning and decision-making processes.

In 2019, ENMAX achieved Electricity Canada’s designation as a Sustainable Electricity Company. This designation recognizes the importance ENMAX places on our environment, social and governance performance.
