Your trust is very important to us; therefore, at ENMAX, we take your privacy seriously. ENMAX has appointed a Director, Compliance to oversee its robust privacy compliance program for protecting your personal information's privacy.

The ENMAX Privacy Program has developed a comprehensive governance framework, including this Personal Information Commitment, that provides a holistic view of how we collect, use, share, transfer, disclose, protect, retain, and dispose of your personal information. Our privacy practices are based on industry and regulatory standards, including the ten fair privacy principles, privacy by design principles, and the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

Under the Alberta Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), you have certain rights regarding the personal information we hold about you. These rights grant you control over your personal data and provide transparency in how we manage it. Here are your privacy rights:

1. Right to request your personal information:

ENMAX respects your right to request information about you in our custody or control. In the course of our business, we collect, process, and generate information about you, and you have the right to request it.
We have an intake form that you can complete to help us provide you with the information you are asking for. However, we will let you know when the law only allows us to provide you with some of the information you request.

2. Right to correct or update your personal information:

As time passes, we understand that changes happen. ENMAX understands your right to correct, change, or update the accuracy of personal information we hold about you.
When you call us, or we call you, our agents usually update your information by confirming that your information is still accurate. However, we ask that you inform us as soon as possible when there are changes to your information to avoid the risk of incorrect or incomplete information.

3. Knowledge & Consent:

ENMAX understands your privacy right to provide us with your consent before we can collect, use, disclose, and retain your information. We understand you need to know the purpose of collecting your personal information to make informed decisions.
ENMAX's Personal Information Commitment serves the purpose of providing you with sufficient knowledge about our privacy practices, and we encourage you to read it.
You may refuse to provide personal information to us. You may also withdraw your consent at any time, subject to applicable legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. However, in either case, this may severely limit our ability to provide services to you (e.g., the inability to provide power to your residence and correctly bill you).

4. Right to assign a third Party:

You can appoint a third party to access personal information we hold about you—for example, power of attorney or legal representative. We may provide information about a customer's account to the customer's legal representative if we are satisfied that the individual is requesting the information on behalf of the customer.

If you have contacted us and were not satisfied with the information we provided, you can make a complaint to the Alberta Office of Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC).

Safeguarding your personal information

ENMAX understands the importance of protecting your personal information, so we have privacy and security processes in place. Here are a few ways we do this:

1. Limiting Collection and Use:

This means collecting, using, or disclosing only the minimum data required to achieve the business purpose.

ENMAX usually collects the minimum information we need to provide services and products to you. To identify the collection purposes, ENMAX balances your privacy and our business needs.

2. Security and Privacy Assessments:

ENMAX performs assessments whenever there are new or changes to existing practices, systems, programs, software, or processes that handle your personal information. The primary objective of performing these assessments is to identify the risk to privacy early in our approach and employ safeguard measures to mitigate or reduce identified risks to a controllable state effectively.

ENMAX typically performs security and privacy assessments when we engage a new vendor. We assess their privacy and security programs and controls to ensure they are at a comparable level as ENMAX in protecting the privacy of your personal information.

3. Agreement:

ENMAX engages third-party vendors or service providers to help complete several tasks. ENMAX understands it remains our obligation to ensure that your personal information is adequately protected, including using the information only for purposes identified in our Personal Information Commitment. However, ENMAX uses an agreement to ensure the vendors keep to their word.

ENMAX has legal professionals responsible for ensuring the agreement has sufficient privacy and legal clauses to hold the vendors or providers accountable. Trust us; your personal information is safe with us.
