New ready for energization assurance for site energization

On January 25, 2023, ENMAX Power shared a new, enhanced safety practice required during site energization through the building permit process with our industry partners.

Prior to energization, ENMAX Power will now require:

  • A green sticker from the City of Calgary or applicable authorization from other local inspection authorities,
OR
  • A white sticker placed on the meter base providing ENMAX Power assurance from the site owner that the site is ready to energize and that no obvious hazards will result from such energization.

It has always been a requirement for the site owner or the site owner’s agent to confirm the readiness to energize and now the presence of a white sticker makes it more clear to those performing the work.

“Safety is paramount to ENMAX,” said Chris Smith, Director of Safety and Environment. “We consistently review our policies and practices to ensure we operate in a safe and reliable manner.”

The site owner must ensure that the individual providing the assurance has the experience and qualifications (e.g. electrician) to confirm that it is safe to energize and no obvious hazards shall result from the energization. The white sticker must include:

  1. Signature of the individual providing assurance; and
  2. Name of the individual providing assurance; and
  3. Date of signature.

Please note: there are NO changes to the green sticker requirement.

White stickers are available for pickup at ENMAX Place Reception Front Desk, 141 – 50 Ave SE between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

“Starting February 14, 2023, we won’t energize a site without seeing the ENMAX white sticker or a green sticker from the City of Calgary or applicable authorization from other local inspection authorities,” said Smith. “We appreciate our customers’ cooperation in ensuring the safety of our workers and the public.”

To assist our customers through this transition period, until February 13, 2023, ENMAX will also accept the submission of the same data required on the ENMAX white sticker in the following ways:

  • Any white sticker with the same site-specific assurance requirement on the meter base. OR
  • An email to SOC2@enmax.com with the same site-specific assurance requirements.

During the transition period, ENMAX will be connecting with all customers who have requested site energization to confirm that one of the options has been completed. However, we invite customers who have completed the Ready for Energization Assurance requirements to contact ENMAX Power directly, using the contact information below, to advise of its completion.

If you have any questions about site energization, please contact ENMAX Power at 403‐514‐2807 or SOC2@enmax.com.
