ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX Power) owns and operates transmission line 37.81 (37.81L), which provides electrical services to the residential and commercial properties in Calgary’s Penbrooke Meadows and Applewood Park area and surrounding communities. 37.81L is a 138-kilovolt transmission line that runs north from ENMAX No. 37 Substation (5099 68 Street SE) along 68th Street SE where it connects to ENMAX No. 38 Substation (372 Malvern Close NE).
ENMAX Power intends to apply to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for approval to alter 37.81L by removing six existing wood poles and replacing them with six new wood poles of a greater height and within the existing alignment (the Project).
The proposed pole replacements will increase the height of the 37.81L conductors which will allow ENMAX Power to comply with clearance requirements between 37.81L and a traffic light in the area. The Project will ensure the continued safe, reliable, and efficient operation of ENMAX Power’s electrical system.
ENMAX Power plans to file a Checklist Application with the AUC in Q4 2023. Subject to receiving approvals and the procurement of materials, construction is anticipated to begin in Q2 2024. Construction is anticipated to take approximately two weeks with a proposed in-service date in Q2 2024.
