ENMAX Power Corporation

2.81L 11 STREET SOUTHEAST Transmission Line Alteration Project

Overview

ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX Power) owns and operates transmission line 2.81L (2.81L), which provides electrical services to commercial properties in Calgary’s East Fairview Industrial community and surrounding areas. 2.81L is a 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that runs north from ENMAX No. 9 Substation (1010 64 Ave SE) to 11 Street SE where it continues north and connects to ENMAX No. 2 Substation (3120 9 Street SE).

ENMAX Power intends to apply to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for approval to alter 2.81L by removing two existing H-frame structures and replacing them with two new laminate wood poles in the same locations, and by modifying the existing components (post insulators) on an existing H-frame structure, all within the existing alignment (the Project).

The proposed alterations will increase the height of the 2.81L conductors, allowing ENMAX Power to comply with clearance requirements between the line and an adjacent building and signage in the area. Resolving these clearance violations will ensure the ongoing safe, reliable, and efficient operation of ENMAX Power’s electrical system.

PROPOSED SCHEDULE

ENMAX Power has filed a Checklist Application with the AUC on March 1, 2023. Subject to receiving approvals and procuring materials, construction is anticipated to begin in Q1 2023 and is anticipated to take approximately two weeks with a proposed in-service date in Q2 2023. We encourage stakeholders to consult the webpage for the most up-to-date construction information.

CONSTRUCTION METHODS

The proposed construction activities will take place near 11 Street SE, north of 58 Avenue SE and south of Highfield Crescent SE, in the existing utility right-of-way. Temporary access accommodations and road closures may be periodically required during construction. ENMAX Power will work with stakeholders and The City of Calgary to minimize the impact to residences, businesses, and commuters in the area.

POWER OUTAGES

There are no planned power outages impacting customers associated with Project construction.
