ENMAX makes 10-year legacy investment in the Calgary Stampede with creation of ENMAX Park

/ Calgary

ENMAX Corporation today announced a 10-year legacy investment in the creation of ENMAX Park, a new gathering place in the heart of the Calgary Stampede.

Located on the east side of Stampede Park, ENMAX Park will become a year-round community gathering place along the banks of the Elbow River honouring the more than 100-year history between the two organizations while building a solid foundation for the future.

"ENMAX Park is a beautiful way to celebrate and continue our long-standing relationship with the Calgary Stampede," says Gianna Manes, President and CEO, ENMAX. "Like the power and gas we provide to Albertans, this vibrant, public space will be available 365 days of the year to connect ENMAX Park visitors to the community for years to come."

ENMAX Park will be an open-air museum and outdoor classroom. Families will have the chance to learn about environmental stewardship, First Nations of Treaty 7, and Calgary's history.

"ENMAX Park will be used year-round for large and small functions, everything from festivals to family picnics," said Vern Kimball, CEO Calgary Stampede. "We're pleased to continue the long-standing relationship with ENMAX to provide a space that all ages will enjoy."

ENMAX Park will also become a new environment for existing urban wildlife including fish, birds and small mammals. Revitalizing 16 acres – previously used as light industrial land – with 200 new trees and 800 new shrubs while retaining healthy old growth trees. The space will be a gathering place for recreation, celebration and learning.
