On Wednesday, October 24, the highly anticipated We Day Alberta youth empowerment event kicks off in Calgary. An initiative of Free The Children, the event celebrates the accomplishments of youth, energizing them to take action on vital social issues. Through our participation, ENMAX Corporation is engaging Alberta students to share their achievements by launching the ENMAX Energy Challenge.
The ENMAX Energy Challenge is an online and social media contest for kids aged 13 to 18 to post photos illustrating the change they are driving for a brighter energy future.
"The winner of the ENMAX Energy Challenge contest will win solar panels for their school, enabling them to generate a portion of their electricity from a renewable source," said Theresa Howland, VP of Brand and Residential Markets. "In addition, the system will be incorporated into their classroom learning through real-time monitoring on the Gen E website and lesson plans linked directly to Alberta curriculum."
Photo posts will be accepted from October 24 to December 24. Following this, a panel of judges including Free The Children's founders, Craig and Marc Kielburger, will determine the five finalists. From January 7 to February 12, the public will get to vote online for their favourites. ENMAX Corporation will donate $1 for each qualified entry to Free The Children, benefitting its international development model known as Adopt a Village. In addition, $100 will be donated to a charity of choice for each of the top five finalists.
Contest details will be posted on Facebook.com/GenerateChoice at 9 a.m. on October 24 along with a link to the ENMAX Energy Challenge YouTube video. Participants will also be encouraged to share their dream for a brighter energy future on Twitter at #MyEnergyWish.
