In May 2017, ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX) began the engagement process to replace two underground 138 kV transmission lines and associated components between ENMAX No. 1 Substation, (located at 738 – 9 Avenue SW), and the overhead structure west of 14 Street SW on 9 Avenue SW south of the Greyhound Terminal. These transmission lines need to be replaced as they have reached the end of their expected service life. In June 2017, ENMAX submitted a Facilities Application to the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for the proposed work, which was approved in September 2017.
During the detailed design phase, ENMAX identified constructability challenges around the 14 ST NW and 9 Ave SW intersection. In response to this, ENMAX is now proposing a new alignment in this area as shown on the enclosed map.
ENMAX plans to file this amendment with the AUC in May 2018. Subject to approval being granted, ENMAX expects construction to begin in June 2018 with a proposed in-service date of November 2018.
