The Shepard Energy Centre (SEC) is an 860 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fuelled combined-cycle power generation facility within the Shepard Industrial Park, in the city of Calgary. ENMAX Generation Portfolio Inc. (EGPI) and Capital Power (Alberta) Limited Partnership are joint owners, and EGPI operates this facility. SEC produces enough electricity to supply half of Calgary’s current electricity needs. As part of the routine maintenance schedule for the SEC combustion turbines, turbine blades are removed and replaced with new blades every 25,000 hours of operation to ensure the integrity of the components and reliable operation of the turbines
