ENMAX Substation No. 5 – 10 Avenue SE

Project Overview

The City of Calgary has requested ENMAX Power to relocate underground utilities associated with ENMAX Substation No. 5 located at 302 10 Avenue SE to accommodate the Green Line LRT route.

The work will occur in stages beginning in September 2018 and is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2019.

The work includes:

  • Modifications within ENMAX Substation No. 5 to prepare for rerouting underground connections
  • Installing cables in existing manholes located near ENMAX Substation No. 5 in Victoria Park
  • Installing new manholes and underground connecting ducts along 10 Avenue SE 

This work could produce various noise levels and minor vibrations. Throughout construction, there may be temporary traffic lane, cycle track and sidewalk closures, as well as restrictions on parking. 

Businesses and residents directly impacted by construction activities will be notified in advance by ENMAX Power Customer Relations team.

Project status

Work inside ENMAX No. 5 Substation began in early September and various activities will occur within in the substation periodically throughout construction. The work scope includes installing cables in the existing manholes located along 9, 10 & 11 Avenue SE between 1 Street SE and 4 Street SE. 

There will be no work scheduled to occur between December 19, 2018 to January 2, 2019. Civil construction is scheduled to take place in January 2019. 

The public will see an increase in ENMAX vehicles in this area and there will be temporary traffic or cycle track closures to accommodate this work.
