ENMAX No. 34 Substation Transformer Upgrade

Project Overview

ENMAX Power Corporation (ENMAX) is replacing two existing oil filled power transformers totaling 38.3 MVA with one 50 MVA unit at ENMAX No. 34 Substation located at 3710 – 32 Avenue NW. The current standard for new transformers in the ENMAX system is 50 MVA, and this upgrade is required to ensure the continuous delivery of safe, reliable power. All changes will occur within existing ENMAX property.



Project Details

The project consists of the following:

  • Replacement of two existing oil filled transformers totaling 38.3 MVA with one 50 MVA unit.

Project Status

ENMAX filed a letter of inquiry with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for the proposed work in August 2018. The AUC issued a decision for approving the project and new permits and licenses on October 16, 2018. Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2019 with a proposed in-service date of October 2019.
