Calgary Energy Centre Peaking Plant Connection

​Project Overview

On June 30, 2016, ENMAX Energy Corporation received approval from the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) to expand their Calgary Energy Centre to include a 197 megawatt peaking plant, Calgary Energy Centre Peaking Plant (CEC 2). Connection of the CEC 2 plant to the transmission grid will require ENMAX Power Corporation (EPC) to construct a new substation and 138 kV transmission line, to EPC's existing No.162 substation. The CEC 2 Connection project would be located at 14417 68 Street NE, Calgary.

Project status

ENMAX filed an application with the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) for the proposed work on April 20, 2016. The AUC issued a decision approving the project and new permits and licenses on March 22, 2017. Construction is scheduled to start in May 2018 with completion by July 2019.
