Cavalier Energy Centre and Balzac Facility
Natural gas-powered
The Cavalier Energy Centre and the Balzac Facility are part of a larger generation portfolio intended to help meet the growing electricity needs of our customers across Alberta. ENMAX Energy Corporation's generation strategy is focused on growing our fleet of natural gas-fuelled facilities, as they are more efficient and lower GHG emitting than existing coal-fired plants in Alberta.
Both the Cavalier Energy Centre and Balzac Facility use combined-cycle technology to capture exhaust heat from the gas-turbine process to create steam. This steam power is then used to produce electricity, improving the facilities’ energy efficiency.
Cavalier Energy Centre
Acquired in 2014 by ENMAX Energy Corporation through its subsidiaries, the Cavalier Energy Centre is a 120 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fuelled facility, located near Strathmore, Alberta. ENMAX Energy is the operator of this facility.
Balzac Facility
