Being good neighbours starts with a great relationship.

We believe that being an excellent corporate neighbour with Aboriginal communities starts by building lasting relationships and evolves as we engage those communities in the decision-making process for our proposed and existing facilities.

With one of the largest, youngest and fastest-growing Aboriginal populations in Canada, there are nearly a quarter million First Nation, Métis and Inuit people that play an important role in our social, cultural and economic fabric.

Over five kilometers of ENMAX Power Corporation's transmission lines and one substation are installed on Tsuu T’ina Nation land, which borders Calgary on the west side of the City.

Our fundamental guiding principles – communication and trust – are instrumental in developing open, honest relationships with Aboriginal communities.

Sponsorship and community investment in Aboriginal communities

We look to involve Aboriginal communities in economic, social and other opportunities new projects may offer through contracting and local procurement. We also work to find education-focused community investment opportunities that support Aboriginals in acquiring knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the workforce.

Our approach is to focus support in three key areas:

  • Language and culture preservation
  • Social programs
  • Education, training and recruitment

We also sponsor award ceremonies throughout the year so that we have the opportunity to honour leaders, women and youth who make a difference in the Aboriginal community.
