The regulated rate for Natural Gas is for customers who have not chosen a competitive retailer. The rate is set monthly to reflect current market conditions and is approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC). The rate is based on the expected price of natural gas for the upcoming month plus any adjustment for over or under collection in the prior months. Cold temperatures in February, for Alberta and much of North America, resulted in stronger gas demand and much higher prices than anticipated.
The Regulated Natural Gas Rates for March 1-31, 2014 are as follows:

All customers are free to purchase natural gas services from the default supply provider or from a retailer of their choice and to purchase electricity services from the regulated rate provider or from a retailer of their choice. The delivery of natural gas and electricity to you is not affected by your choice. If you change who you purchase natural gas services or electricity services from, you will continue receiving natural gas and electricity from the distribution company in your service area.
