What factors affect my bill?

There are many factors that can affect the charges on your monthly bill. Here are some examples of factors that might affect the charges on your bill:

Days of service

The days of service could vary on your monthly bill which could result in slightly higher or lower invoices month to month. Please see the How to Read Your Bill section of our website to locate the days of service on your bill.

Changes in weather

Some examples of how your electricity usage could increase during colder weather:

    • Using a heater
    • Using your furnace (furnace fan working longer periods of time to heat home)
    • Indoor lights are turned on for longer periods of time, due to less daylight
    • Christmas lights
    • Plugging in your car due to cold weather

Some examples of how your water and electricity usage could increase during warmer weather:

    • Watering your lawn and/or plants
    • Maintaining your landscaping
    • Washing your car
    • Filling up your swimming pool
    • Higher frequency in baths/showers
    • Air conditioners/fans

Number of people living in house

Each person in a household will contribute to electricity and water consumption. If any additional people are visiting or staying in the household, this will likely result in an increase in consumption.

Appliances are a big contributing factor in electricity and water usage. Some older appliances can consume larger amounts of electricity and water. Additional small appliances such as humidifiers and fans can contribute to higher electricity consumption.

Variable Rates

If you are on the RRO rate or a variable rate, this can affect your bill. The RRO rate and a variable rate will typically fluctuate every month. As a result, you may see an increase/decrease in your bill even though your consumption might be consistent month over month.
