Environmental reporting and Sustainable Electricity™

ENMAX maintains operational procedures in order to support our commitments to environmental protection and compliance with regulatory requirements. Our annual Corporate Responsibility report details ENMAX's commitment to continual improvement of environmental performance.

ENMAX is an active participant in the Sustainable Electricity program, an initiative of the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA). The Sustainable Electricity™ program is a public commitment by member utilities to reduce their impacts on the environment by implementing programs and sharing best management practices to address and mitigate these impacts.

Every year, ENMAX contributes information for the CEA Sustainable Electricity™ Annual Report based on standard reporting guidelines that focus on the most critical environmental issues for our industry, including:

  • Air emissions
  • Climate change adaptation
  • Implementation of Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
  • Commitment to biodiversity

Environmental impacts

ENMAX has identified its main environmental aspects (risks or issues) and has developed objectives, targets and programs to reduce potential environmental impacts in the following areas:

All customers are free to purchase natural gas services from the default supply provider or from a retailer of their choice and to purchase electricity services from the regulated rate provider or from a retailer of their choice. The delivery of natural gas and electricity to you is not affected by your choice. If you change who you purchase natural gas services or electricity services from, you will continue receiving natural gas and electricity from the distribution company in your service area. For a current list of retailers you may choose from, visit www.ucahelps.alberta.ca or call 310-4822 (toll free in Alberta).
