Shane Keating

Councillor Shane Keating was first elected to serve on Council for Ward 12 in October 2010, and was most recently re-elected in 2017. Born in Regina, he moved with his family to the Calgary area in 1991 and has lived in Ward 12 since 1997. Shane spent 31 years as an accomplished educator, and has served on numerous community groups and associations as both a member and an executive.

At present, Councillor Keating serves on a variety of Council committees including serving as the Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Transportation and Transit. He also founded the Families in Remembrance of Military Members (FIRMM), a private organization that works to educate Canadians about the military and provide support for fallen and wounded soldiers.

Councillor Keating earned his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Regina and his Masters of Education Administration from the University of Calgary. Before becoming a City Councillor, he spent 18 years as a school teacher and 13 years as a school administrator/principal.
