Bright Nights Program

In addition to repairing and maintaining streetlights, ENMAX Power Services offers a community-based program called the Bright Nights Program”. This program provides energy-efficient lighting in alleys that have overhead (above ground) wiring. Activated from dusk to dawn, the lights provide visibility to a 12 metre (40 foot) radius.

Calgary Fire Home Safety Program

ENMAX is proud to support the Calgary Fire Department’s Home Safety Program. The Calgary Fire Department promotes home safety for families around Calgary, testing and replacing batteries in smoke alarms and sharing information about cooking and electrical fires as well as teaching families how to get out safely if there is a fire.

CEMA – Emergency preparedness Week

Every May, ENMAX is proud to take part in the City of Calgary’s Emergency Preparedness Week, organized by the Calgary Emergency Management Agency. This includes the Disaster Alley event, where ENMAX safety specialists and trouble response crews showcase how we deal with outages and emergencies, and provide information on staying safe around electricity as well as preparing for and dealing with power outages.

Partners for Community Safety

ENMAX is pleased to be partners with The City of Calgary, ATCO Gas, Canada Post and Telus in promoting community safety for service providers. This committee looks at promoting things like keeping yards safe for meter readers, shoveling walks for mail carriers, and generally having an obstacle-free property for improved safety of everyone in the community.

Safety Expo

Every March, three thousand Calgary students get the chance to attend Safety Expo, Calgary’s premiere safety event for kids. ENMAX is a proud sponsor of this event and works in conjunction with the City of Calgary’s Animal and Bylaw Services office, Calgary Fire, Police, Alberta EMS, The Red Cross, Girl Guides and safety groups like AED-ARSA and ACSA to organize and run the event.

As sponsor, ENMAX pays for the buses that bring the students to Safety Expo, and sets up an exhibit to discuss electricity and safety where students can try on safety gear and learn how to stay safe at home, school and play.

Electrical safety in the classroom

We've recently completed a review of our school program, including the popular School Safety Program. To help us increase electricity literacy, including electrical safety, we have partnered with Inside Education to deliver in-class electricity programs and learning materials to classrooms across Alberta.

Contact community@enmax.com if you have other electrical safety questions.
