Could your outdoor activities bring you (or an object you're touching) into contact with an overhead powerline?
Consider these tips:
Do your kids play with waterguns? Some waterguns shoot water high enough to reach powerlines, creating a path that could electrocute your child. Never allow children to shoot waterguns or fly kites or model airplanes near overhead powerlines. Encourage them to play in an open field or a park, where there isn’t any electrical equipment.
Before slinging your fishing pole over your shoulder, ensure you aren’t near any overhead powerlines.
Hang gliders and parachuters could face tragedy if they hit overhead powerlines. Make sure you’re enjoying your extreme sports in a safe way, and be sure you have control over where you land.
Before you load anything onto a trailer (like a boat), think about how high the object will be. Overhead powerlines are situated so there is typically a 20 foot clearance between the ground and line. Allow yourself plenty of room.
