ENMAX Power provides customers with reliable, high-quality power. Power interruptions sometimes occur, though, for a variety of reasons, including unplanned and planned interruptions. Read our tips on preparing for interruptions and managing when the power goes out.
Unplanned Interruptions
Interruptions in service can occur for a number of reasons, such as:
- storms with wind, ice or snow
- lightning striking transmission towers, wires or poles
- trees limbs contacting lines due to storms or trimming by an untrained professional
- automobile accidents damaging ENMAX Power facilities
- squirrels, birds and other small animals jumping on transformers
- digging that damages underground cables
- kites and balloons contacting power lines
ENMAX Power crews are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to repair interruptions to your service.

*Call 911 for emergency or life-threatening situations.
Since power interruptions can be caused by severe weather or other emergencies, they might indicate a larger issue that could affect you and your family. You can find more information about handling these situations and staying safe by visiting the City of Calgary Emergency Management.
Planned Interruptions
We also have planned interruptions, which allows us to schedule maintenance and repairs. To cause minimal inconvenience to our customers, you'll be notified in advance of these interruptions.*
- Residential customers are notified by hand-delivered letters or large signs at the entrance to their community.
- Commercial and industrial interruptions are negotiated on site with affected customers.
