Safety is priority #1 at ENMAX.

Whether it’s the safety of the public around our electrical facilities or the safety of our field crews who work with high voltage electricity, ENMAX is committed to promoting safe electrical practices every day.

Safety Expo
ENMAX is thrilled to be involved in the seventh annual Safety Expo at the Calgary Municipal Building on March 10 and 11, 2010!

As always, ENMAX is proud to partner with Southland Transportation to provide free bussing for classes who have pre-registered for the event!

This allows students in Calgary’s public and separate school divisions, as well as various private schools, to take part in a great event that promotes safe and responsible behaviour from Calgary’s youth.

ENMAX hosts an exhibit that features safety gear worn by front-line workers, power system equipment, and The Hazard Hamlet – an interactive simulation designed to teach kids about electrical safety. On-hand to answer questions will be volunteers from ENMAX and recent graduates participating in our Engineers-in-Training program.

The expo is held in conjunction with the Jim Gray Awards presentation by Safer Calgary  which recognizes individuals, groups, and businesses committed to making Calgary a safer city.

School Safety Program
Every year, thousands of grade five students across Calgary and Red Deer learn about electrical safety thanks to the school safety program. This free, hour long presentation is tailored for grade five students in conjunction with their science curriculum on electricity and magnetism. Students learn about how electricity works and how dangerous it can be through an interactive presentation featuring the Hazard Hamlet model town and various examples of safe and unsafe items.

To register for a safety presentation, please phone 514-2020 (toll-free in Alberta), or e-mail us, and we'll be happy to bring this fun, interactive safety message to your school.

Joint Utility Safety Team
The number of third-party electrical contacts in Alberta has been increasing over the last few years. On average, three people per day make contact with a power line.

To address this issue, ENMAX has been part of an initiative over the past year to bring other Alberta utility companies and the Government of Alberta together to create and launch a joint public safety advertising campaign.

In Spring 2006, the Joint Utility Safety Team (JUST) partnership was formalized with participation from AltaLink, Fortis Alberta, ATCO Electric, EPCOR, Alberta Municipal Affairs, Alberta Human Resources and Employment and ENMAX Power Corporation.

Calgary Block Watch
The Calgary Block Watch Council and ENMAX are working together to prevent crime in the Calgary community.

Calgary Block Watch is a non-profit society that provides crime prevention support, guidance and assistance to Calgarians.

ENMAX's Residential Bright Nights program lights residential alleyways to discourage trespassers.
