Getting Electrical Service

Here's how you can get new or temporary electricity service from ENMAX Power.

If your request is for a new Site ID, skip to Step 4 below. For all other requests, follow Steps 1-6 below.

1. Make your Service Request

ENMAX Power will ask you for the following information:

  • location where you need service

Based on this information, your name and phone number will be forwarded to an ENMAX Power electrical planner.

2. Expect Your Return Call, Usually Within the Same Business Day

The planner will walk you through what service is currently available and the process needed to fulfill your request. The planning process can take twelve weeks (and occasionally longer) outside the downtown area and a minimum of eight weeks inside downtown depending on the scope and location of the request.

3. An ENMAX Inspector & an Electrical Inspector May Need to Review Your Plans.

This step must be done prior to any installation.

4. Obtain Your Site ID
You now require a Site Identification number to secure an electrical installation in Alberta. To obtain the Site ID a form must be completed and submitted to ENMAX Power. To access the correct form click on the link below.

For each site, you'll need to provide the address, service type and characteristics (volts, amps, phases & wire count) and permit number.

In Calgary, for a single family homes and duplexes the building permit number is required. For condos, multi-family homes and commercial properties the electrical permit number is required.

For Red Deer all services require the electrical permit.

If you have any questions please contact 403 514-2807 or 1-866-883-6629.

5. Choose your Electricity Retailer

Once a Site ID has been assigned to your service, contact your chosen retailer and request to enroll your site. The retailer will notify ENMAX that they're supplying electricity to your service. As a provincial standard, enrollment transactions are processed at midnight. The next day, once the retailer receives notification that their enrollment is successful, they'll submit a request to have your site energized.

To view a list of retailers you can visit the Alberta Government's Customer Choice web site.

6. ENMAX will Dispatch a Crew to Energize Your Service

We're able to energize your service once we've received a successful enrollment and request for energy from your retailer.

Note: ENMAX cannot energize any service that has not been successfully enrolled by a Retailer.

Note: The timing required to obtain a Site ID and have the site enrolled by a retailer means that it's not possible to provide same-day service for energizing new sites. If you need energy at a new service on a particular day, please remember to obtain your site ID and select a Retailer in advance to prevent delays.
