On June 1, 2009, ENMAX Power Corporation (EPC) implemented a new business model, Developer Choice.
Key aspects of the Developer Choice model are as follows:
- Developers are responsible for design, construction, and project coordination
- Applies to the majority of Developer driven non-residential distribution projects, excluding projects initiated by The City of Calgary Transportation Infrastructure and Roads
- Developers have a choice of three pre-qualified Service Providers from which to choose.
- The pre-qualified Service Provider will undertake the electrical design and construction on behalf of the Developers
- Standards, specifications and guidelines for design, material and construction are set by EPC
- EPC will continue to contribute to the servicing cost in accordance with the investment levels outlined in the Terms and Conditions of servicing approved by the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC)

Why the change?
Since the 1990’s EPC has been transitioning towards an Asset Management Operating Model where EPC’s role as asset owner will focus on owning, operating and managing the growth of its infrastructure.
What does this mean for me, the Developer?
The Developer Choice model will result in an improved level of service by providing Developers with:
- a “one-stop shop” for electrical servicing,
- a choice of service providers,
- increased control over design/construction costs and project scheduling,
- innovative solutions which will support and encourage new technology, and
- value added products and services that support Developers’ business needs.
