Cumulative Meter reading
Monthly meter readings are read or estimated for each site. If actual readings are not available, an accurate formula is used to estimate and calculate the monthly costs based on previous consumption patterns. ENMAX Power is contracted to read water meters, by the City of Calgary, Waterworks Department. Any water meter related issues phone 311, City of Calgary. A number of methods are implemented for meter reading, depending on the type of meter being used.
- Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) - used for Interval electric meters that are polled daily using various communication methods.
- Itron equipment - used for manual meter reading. Readings are taken either visually or by radio frequency, and entered into a hand held acquisition device. At the end of the day, all meter information collected is downloaded into the MDM system.
An Interactive Voice Response System (IVR) is employed with both electric and water meters that allows customers to phone in their meter reading when access to the meter is difficult. For inaccessible meters, at least two actual readings are conducted each year.
Interval Meter Data
POD Interval Meters are point of delivery meters that measure energy delivered to each Substation in Calgary. That meter data is reported daily to the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO) for reconciliation of energy within the Alberta Transmission grid.
Customer Interval Meters are installed at customer sites that record a peak demand of 150 Kva or greater twice in a calendar year. These meters are read daily by telephone or wireless communication, the data is validated then sent to the customers retailer for billing.
Meter reading routes and schedules
Routes are set up and managed through software that allows routes to correspond to billing cycles over each month.
