ENMAX Green Power Ltd. has 100% interest in the Taber Wind Farm, ENMAX’s latest wind energy venture, and a 50% interest in the McBride Lake Wind Farm located near Fort Macleod in southern Alberta. The projects are supported by the federal government's Wind Power Production Incentive (WPPI) program.

Taber Wind Farm

Our new wind farm near Taber opened in the fall of 2007 with 37 turbines capable of producing an ouput of power of over 80 MW – enough to power more than 32,000 homes.

ENMAX chose this area because of its strong wind characteristics and ideal topography. It is adjacent to an existing 138kV transmission line that has available capacity for the generation output. Environmental, historical, noise, soil and vegetation studies were completed with no adverse impacts identified. ENMAX has also been working collaboratively with Suncor Energy Products Inc. and Dr. Robert Barclay of the University of Calgary to establish a regional monitoring program in southern Alberta in order to gain a better understanding of the effects of wind turbines on birds and migrating bats.

McBride Lake Wind Farm

Generating renewable electricity since 2003, McBride Lake Wind Farm is a perfect example of ENMAX’s multi-faceted role as co-owner, developer and marketer of renewable energy.

ENMAX led the way in the development of wind power generation in Alberta as 50% owner of the McBride Lake Wind Farm located near Fort Macleod in southern Alberta. TransAlta Wind owns the other 50%. ENMAX Energy owns 100% of the output from this facility under a long-term power purchase agreement. The 76 MW electricity generating facility produces about 235,000 MWh per year from 114 Vesta wind turbines. This is enough energy to power more than 29,375 homes annually.
