Our Philosophy

Our Commitment

At ENMAX Energy, we continually strive to be environmentally responsible and are committed to providing smarter energy solutions to the communities we serve.

ENMAX has implemented several corporate-wide initiatives and programs that make up a large part of our commitment to our employees, customers and to the environment.

Environmental Management System (EMS)

ENMAX has an EMS that conforms to ISO 14001 standards for environmental management. The EMS is used to develop and implement ENMAX’s Environmental Policy which outlines ENMAX’s environmental commitments and helps develop programs, initiatives and processes to address the potential environmental impacts of ENMAX’s activities.

ENMAX Place

  • Located near downtown Calgary, is the largest office space in Canada that is EcoLogo certified.
  • Wherever possible, was built using renewable, recyclable or otherwise sustainable materials and finishes such as 100% PVC-free carpet backing and carpet fibre made with 50% sustainable nylon.
  • It was built using a wide array of energy efficient initiatives including: a building energy management system, maximizing use of natural daylight, motion/occupancy sensors to control lighting, mechanical controls to reduce or turn off ventilation/cooling when certain rooms are unoccupied.
  • In 2004, received three awards from Calgary’s Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) including the Earth Award recognizing our commitment to the environment.

EcoPledge

EcoPledge is an internal program to inform employees about environmental issues and to help employees commit to specific actions to reduce their environmental footprint both at work and at home.

The report was prepared in alignment with the Global Reporting Initiative Third Generation Guidelines.

Information Technology

  • ENMAX has implemented practices and processes aimed to reduce ENMAX’s computer and electronics environmental footprint by consuming less power and creating less pollution.
  • Printers are defaulted to the double-sided setting to minimize the amount of paper consumed in print jobs.
  • ENMAX opts for copy machines that are 30 % more efficient than older models and are low emitters of particulate matter.
  • A central power management software allows IT to manage the power settings of every ENMAX desktop computer to ensure all the computers are running at their most power-efficient state.
  • ENMAX’s IT department is committed to making sure all its infrastructure including desktops, monitors and blackberries are disposed of in an environmentally-friendly way by sending them to be refurbished or to a designated recycling centre.
  • Used batteries go to the ENMAX used battery recycling program.
