The ENMAX Energy Default Retailer rate is for business customers who use over 250,000 kWh/year and have not signed an energy contract. These customers are automatically assigned the Default Retailer rate. The current rate, effective April 1, 2010, has a fixed demand charge per KVA plus a variable energy (kWh) charge based on AECO-C (gas price index) and a set heat rate.
Customers will notice more stable costs than the previous default rate which was completely variable (based on the Alberta Power Pool price) which could have volatile swings month to month depending on the power pool price.
