ENMAX Power Corporation is pleased to be a sponsor in Calgary’s seventh annual Safety Expo on March 10 and 11 at the City Hall atrium. Kids in grades four to seven from the public and catholic system as well as private and home-schooled students will participate. The Expo runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.
The Expo inspires kids on safety at home, school and play through interactive exhibits, workshops and demonstrations. With over 35 exhibits, kids will learn to handle emergency situations, internet safety, fire prevention, and consequences of crime or poor lifestyle choices.
“The nature of our business means that we have to put an absolute priority on safety,” says Lauren Shaw, ENMAX School Safety program. “Educating even young kids to be cautious around electricity is a necessity.”
Building on the School Safety program to complement Alberta’s science curriculum, ENMAX Corporation will feature an interactive booth at the Expo. “Hazard Hamlet” is an interactive miniature electric town that teaches kids about dangerous situations. Kids will also have the chance to inspect electrical equipment and try on specialized linemen safety gear.
More than 3,200 local students are expected to attend the Expo, courtesy of co-sponsors ENMAX Power Corporation and The City of Calgary. ENMAX Power will also sponsor free busing for participating schools through Southland Transportation.
The planning and hosting of Safety Expo is a collaborative effort on behalf of the following organizations: ENMAX Power Corporation, Safer Calgary, The City of Calgary, Calgary Police Service, Calgary Fire Department, EMS, Girl Guides of Canada and Campus Calgary: City Hall School, all of which consider safety a core value.
Highlights: Helmet safety (gelatin brain display; damage to eggs wearing protective helmets - others without); Fire (timed escapes from ‘mock’ burning home); Escalator safety (damaged items on display – toys, shoes, etc.); Dog attacks (how NOT to get on the lunch menu); and more.
