ENMAX Power Corporation is pleased to be a sponsor and partner of Calgary’s sixth annual Safety Expo which will take place on March 4 and 5, 2009.
The Expo will showcase interactive exhibits, workshops and demonstrations for students in grades four to nine. The Expo focuses on promoting safety at home, at school and at play.
Twenty-seven exhibitors will provide opportunities for interactive learning on safety best practices and risks. Meanwhile, organized workshops will offer a forum for students to learn about responsible citizenship, fire prevention, water safety, internet safety and the consequences of crime and poor lifestyle choices.
ENMAX Power is proud to host an electrical safety booth featuring the Hazard Hamlet, an interactive dollhouse that teaches students about safe practices, and supports the students’ science curriculum. ENMAX Power will also have power system equipment and linemen safety gear on display for students. Members of our Engineers-in-Training program, a program designed for final-year engineering students, will be present to help explain the dangers of electricity and to help promote safe habits.
“For us, safety is priority one. We are honoured to help Calgary students attend an event that promotes safety in a fun and interactive way,” says Lauren Shaw, Communications Coordinator, who runs ENMAX Power’s School Safety program. ENMAX Power contributes to Calgary’s Safety Expo as an extension of this program.
More than 3,000 local students are expected to attend the Expo, courtesy of co-sponsors ENMAX Power Corporation, Safer Calgary and The City of Calgary. ENMAX Power will also sponsor free busing for these Calgary students through Southland Transportation.
On March 4, the Expo will host the annual Jim Gray Safer Calgary Awards, a ceremony to honor individuals, groups, communities and corporations for their contributions to safety in our communities. This year’s Expo will also feature Calgary’s re-designation as an “International Safe Community” by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The planning and hosting of Safety Expo is a collaborative effort on behalf of the following organizations: ENMAX Power Corporation, Safer Calgary, The City of Calgary, Calgary Police Service, Ledcor Construction Limited, Girl Guides of Canada and Campus Calgary: City Hall School, all of which consider safety a core value.
